5 March 2024: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) concluded the regional workshop for the project “Building Resilience to Climate Change by Enhancing Water Security in the Middle East and North Africa.” This project aims to contribute to raising the resilience of the water sector and achieving water security through the adoption of nature-based solutions, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office of the United Kingdom Government.
The three-day workshop discussed the project’s continuity and the work plan for its third year, which commenced on the 4th of March, with the participation of Dr. Jihad Al-Mahamid, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. Representatives from ministries and national institutions, including the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, and implementing partners from Lebanon, Egypt, and Palestine, were present.
It is worth mentioning that the Al Murunah Project will commence implementing the interventions agreed upon with the relevant ministries and the local community in June. The Al Murunah project aims to raise awareness, enhance knowledge, and produce scientific evidence by applying the concepts of enhancing knowledge based on scientific evidence and integrating nature-based solutions in the field of water and agricultural water management to enhance water security sustainably. The project specifically targets women and youth, who are most vulnerable to risks, by enhancing their participation and contribution through various project activities. The Al Murunah project, supported by the British Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, has a duration of five years and is being implemented in four countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Egypt.
