About
Youth for Meghna (Y4M) is a youth-led network established under the Barak-Meghna Water Futures Programme (Meghna WFP), supported by the BRIDGE GBM initiative. It aims to empower a network of young people to take meaningful action for the conservation and sustainable development of the Meghna River Basin. The initiatives aligning with the IUCN Youth Strategy of enhancing the engagement and influence of youth in the conservation sector.
The Meghna WFP builds on IUCN’s global experience in youth engagement and water governance, and is designed to strengthen youth leadership, foster regional collaboration, and promote Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate resilience.

Why Youth?
The Meghna River Basin supports the livelihoods of over 50 million people and is rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage. However, it faces growing threats from climate change, pollution, and unsustainable development. At the same time, the basin is home to a large youth population—over 70% in Meghalaya (India) and 28% in Bangladesh are under 35. Youth are both vulnerable to these changes and uniquely positioned to drive innovation and advocacy. Y4M empowers young people to become agents of change by building their capacity, connecting them across borders, and supporting their leadership in water governance.
