Water Vision to Action
The Water and Nature Initiative (WANI) was IUCN’s response to the global agenda on water and development in 2000 and the call to move from vision to action. WANI-1, spanning from 2001 to 2008, laid the foundation for the Initiative's objectives. WANI-2, from 2009 to 2013, builds upon previous achievements, prioritizing scalability and sustained change. The emphasis is on integrating ecosystem approaches and IWRM into water policies and basin planning for long-term sustainability. WANI's decentralized management structure enabled efficient coordination and problem-solving, while continuous efforts to secure co-financing ensured sustainability and project success. Ongoing success in leveraging financing underscores the Initiative's commitment to embedding change and ensuring future sustainability.
