6 February 2025: Lao PDR joined the Ramsar Convention in 2010, with the designation of the Xe Champhone and Boeung Kiat Ngong wetlands as its first two Ramsar sites. IUCN had proposed that the government also designates Siphandone as a Ramsar site because of its outstanding natural values.
