Ecuador-Peru, Lake Titicaca Basin (Bolivia – Peru)

In the Andean region, the BRIDGE project is implemented in two transboundary areas: the Lake Titicaca Basin (Bolivia – Peru) and through the support to Ecuador and Peru in setting up and operationalising a Binational Commission on Transboundary Water for the nine transboundary basins they share.

Achievements

Zarumilla and Catamayo-Chira River Basins

BRIDGE supported the development of IWRM plans for the basins, facilitating the set-up of networks of Champions to support activities in the basin and working with the basin commissions.

BRIDGE was active in these basins from 2011 until 2016 when activities in Ecuador and Peru moved up to national level engagements.

Ecuador - Peru

What started as dialogues and facilitation on IWRM planning and coordination in two transboundary basins between Ecuador and Peru, did between 2016 – 2019 evolve into a process of supporting and advising the two governments to set-up and implement a Binational Commission on Transboundary Water for the nine transboundary basins they share. In the current phase of BRIDGE planning for the Commissions operationalisation and resource mobilisation strategy is taking place.

Lake Titicaca Basin (Peru – Bolivia)

BRIDGE initially started working with the Lake Titicaca Authority (ALT), facilitating the development of a shared water information system and agreement on joint monitoring. Through local partners, such as Agua Sustentable, BRIDGE has also supported the development of a Network of Women Leaders in the basin, building capacity on water quality monitoring and supporting local information and awareness campaigns of the Lake’s ecosystem and consequences of climate change.

BRIDGE has been active in the Lake Titicaca Basin since 2011.
